ii. Never “clear your mind” – bad stuff can enter

One very dangerous thing that goes against the Bible is clearing your mind. It deserves mention here because, as a spiritual leader, you will need to help others grow spiritually. That means, you will have to teach them right from wrong, and help them avoid error. You can be a great help to parents this way, too, as a young person.

As we’ve seen, God is real. Heaven is a real place. However, those who believe in clearing one’s mind don’t totally believe this. They believe that everything is the same. They don’t realize that there are evil forces in the world.

Remember, God is your friend. You can’t talk to your friend by just looking at a picture of someone else. That would be silly. In the same way, you can’t talk to God by clearing your mind and focusing on something else.

The Bible does tell us to meditate on God. But, that is not the way the world sees meditation. How does one meditate on God? By thinking about His attributes. By adoring Him and worshipping Him.

Read Psalm 139. It is a perfect example of the kind of thoughts that come from truly focusing on God, and how great He is.

This entire section on prayer may have seen like a detour. But, it was important. Prayer is a major part of that friendship God wants to have with you. There is a spiritual battle all around us. If you clear your mind like in Eastern thought, you will have those evil forces tempting you. But, if you focus on God in your prayers, and on what’s right in how you live, you will be victorious.
