God likely blessed the Shunammite woman’s family because of her faith. This is one reason I think she followed God for a long time. This doesn’t mean that following God will stop all problems. There was a great famine in the land later. She – and her son – were told to leave, before coming back and having her land given back to her. (2 Kings 8:1-6) But, God will guide you through such problems, just as Elisha warned the woman of the famine, and told her to leave.
Numerous people have said that sometimes, it seems like you’re either entering a storm, going through one, or coming out of one all the time. Sometimes, it may seem like you’re different places in different storms at the same time. But, that’s true of everyone. As Jesus tells us, “He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and the rain to fall on the just and on the unjust.” (Matt. 5:45)
So, the Shunammite woman still had problems. But, she was given some wealth. God knew she would be of more use on His team with some than with none. Just like if you were making a team on a computer, and decided to create a player with certain skills. You know he’ll be better with them than without. But, some players are better without certain things. Spud Webb, a famous basketball player for a number of years, was shorter than almost everyone in the league by at least half a foot! But, that let him make some great plays that others couldn’t make. And, I’ve been able to do things while mostly blind I never would have done had I been sighted.
