c. She could raise her son in peace

Wine is called a “mocker,” in fact. Strong drink makes people rage, and anyone who falls into it is unwise. (Proverbs 20:1) You don’t want to be considered a fool, do you? Drinking isn’t the only thing that ruins the peace of a home. But, it’s one of the biggest. Heavy rage and intense anger are also things the Shunammite woman never had to face. She could raise her son in peace.

This deals partly with safety, of course. But, it’s separate for this reason. Her husband could have given her lots of emotional problems. He could have belittled her every time she mentioned God. The evidence shows that he didn’t, though. He respected her wishes to worship, and to go see the man of God during the new moon and religious feasts that Israel had. He wonders why she is going. He could have lost some faith then, after their son died. But, as shown before, it’s more likely that he was just as faithless as before then; else he would have suggested they forget about it.

A spouse must be emotionally supportive, as well as everything else. Yes, all homes will have some drama, at one time or another. But, people must talk out their problems. They should discuss things before problems could arise. And, there should be a family altar where the couple can go to the Lord for help. That way, it will help you recall to live the Christian life all the time. Remember, it’s not just a religion. It’s a relationship with the Creator of the universe.
