ii. Your reasonable service

It’s hard enough for any of us to do things we don’t like. Imagine if you had to leave a perfect place, where all your needs were met. You had nobody bothering you. There was no pain, no death, no parting at all. Everything was so wonderful. You had all the power you could ever want, as well.

Now, say you had to leave that place, to go someplace where it was really dull, and dingy. A place where you would be very poor, and nobody would know who you were. Oh, you’d have some friends, but they would all end up leaving you. In fact, one would betray you. Another, one of your closest friends, would deny three times ever knowing you. And, while you had never felt pain in your life, you would be beaten, people would spit on you, and pound nails into you, and you would die. You wouldn’t just have to face separation when people died, like you’d never felt before, you would face separation from God, as He put all the sins of the whole world on you.

That, my friend, is what Jesus did. For you. In fact, if you were the only person ever, He still would have come, and died for you, and risen from the dead.

This is why the Bible calls this your reasonable service. The entire world’s system is built around pleasing ontself. This has rarely been more true than today. However, God’s system says that other people matter. We’ll talk more about that in Part III, as that is a very important concept to teach.

The question is, are you living that. If you aren’t, then it’s never too late to start. And, now is the best time to start. Because, there is a world – starting with your own family – out there that needs you. Who knows; some may reason this and feel the call to go to the mission field. If so, that’s great! But, for many reading this, your mission field is right where you are. Because, God has placed you there to help others.
