“Wait,” you ask, “why should I do more than pray, then?”
Jesus is not walking the earth anymore. He has given us a mission. If you have Jesus in your heart, you have light. He has called you, and me, and all of us to let that light shine in this world. A world filled with darkness.
People will never know who Jesus is unless we tell them, and act it out in our lives. A woman named Esther, many years ago, became queen of Persia, and wound up saving her people from destruction. Like her, you might be in this world for such a time as this. You may be the only example of Jesus someone will ever see. You may be the only hope for someone.
A. As a parent
It goes without saying that as a single mom, you must take the reins. Get the kids in church and keep them away from trouble. Church, sports, and other activities with good, quality male leaders are important. That’s who they need. You must find positive influences and stay away from negative ones. You might find a quality, Christian boyfriend. But, 1 Corinthians 7 says being single can be a gift. So, till you find one you know will be a good influence, be satisfied with God and your friends. We’ll see in Part Two that the Shunammite woman’s husband was the best case scenario. There are many worse cases that you can get involved in, if you’re not careful.
B. As a young person
If you’re a young person, it may be a bit more difficult. But, you may have no choice but to lead. Like Esther, people are counting on you. You don’t have to be the oldest sibling, though if possible the oldest should lead in such a case. Then, there’s a greater chance others will respect and follow you.
If you’re a girl, you likely have more natural mothering instincts, though you should ask the Lord to help you with those. You can nurture and discipline well, though. If you’re a boy, you might have to work on the nurturing part even more. I’ve got good news, though. You don’t have to do it yourself. God will be with you, every step of the way. He’ll fill every need that you have, if you ask.
No matter what your gifts are, like Esther, you are here for such a time as this. God has made you especially so you can lead.
What will that mean? We’ll look at that a lot soon. For now, just realize this. If nobody will take the reins as the spiritual head of your home, you must. Who knows, maybe one day, God will relieve that burden on you. However, like the Shunammite woman, for at least some period of time, you must be the one.
We’ll discuss how later. Now, let’s look at one more reason why – so they can dare to dream. Maybe you’re wondering if you can lead because you don’t have the faith you did. It happens. Maybe you’ve stopped dreaming.
Well, take heart – Jesus promises that with God, all things are possible!
