i. Sometimes, you can only pray

God made you. He won’t expect you to do anything beyond what He made you to be able to do with His help. My handicaps and natural size mean that God would not expect me to be an NFL lineman. Other things, I could do with His help – like writing. I had some natural talent, but I needed to work to develop that. Then, I needed His help in producing this book.

There are things God only wants you to pray about. Sometimes, the problem is too dangerous, or a person has done all they can. A good example in this narrative is the lad who takes the child to the child’s mother in verse 19. The child was old enough to be in the field, but still young enough to be carried home by a helper. That helper could only do that, and pray. Indeed, all the Shunammite woman could do was to seek God’s help.

Trusting in God will be vital whether you just pray, or lead. But, a young person can’t stop crime and other bad things. A young person can’t move siblings out of a bad neighborhood. A young person may not be able to be a huge influence on their parents – though they can be some. In some cases, all that can be done are to pray, and to do things mentioned in the section on overcoming obstacles.

However, there are other times when you can and must take action.
