That’s the problem with what’s called “health and wealth” preachers. The Bible never says we were meant to be rich. Some people can be more of a blessing in the way God made them by having less money. God never meant us to always be healthy. I have done things being legally blind I could not have done sighted. Or, rather, I would never have been in a position to do.
The Bible also never says we’re going to be 100% healthy. In fact, my grandpa’s life was saved by getting sick. See, two weeks before his first training mission in World War Two, he got sick with pleurisy. He couldn’t fly; he was in the hospital. While he was sick, that flight crew took off. They crashed on their first mission. It was so bad that everyone on board died. If my grandpa had not been sick, he would have been killed. So, sickness can be a blessing. God’s ways are so much more complex than ours.
“Health and wealth” preachers focus only on the things of this world. But, those will burn up one day. Our rewards need to be built in Heaven. Those will last forever. Such preachers might or might not be able to explain salvation well. Some do a very good job of that. But, they totally miss the mark when it comes to applying other verses. It is spiritual wealth God wants us to get, not physical wealth.
We grow spiritually by drawing close to Jesus, and serving Him. Sometimes the best answer someone can get for a prayer is “no.”
