Let’s look at the next few verses in 2 Kings 4. Elisha was a man of God. Before the Bible was available to everyone, God called prophets to tell people His Word and also to warn them of things that would – or could - happen. Elisha was one of those.
He was like a preacher, but prophets preached as they walked along the roads in those days. They also might have things they could do to show they were from God.
Okay, so Elisha is going back and forth past her house. The Shunammite woman sees that he is a man of God. Her husband should be the one to notice this. He should do what she does. However, he doesn’t help Elisha. Still, his wife doesn’t just listen, she does something for Elisha. That is what a good spiritual leader does.
Prophets didn’t get paid. They were lucky if people didn’t want to kill them for saying how bad the peoples’ sin was. So, Elisha needed a place to stay, he needed food, he needed lots of things to help him.
Why should you help in your situation? Why should you take the spiritual lead? Let’s consider why the Shunammite woman helped Elisha.
