Here is where we get our first look at the Shunammite woman. She was from a part of Israel called Shunem. Right away, the Bible calls her “a great woman.” Why? God knew what she would do. He also knew things she had done that we don’t know about.
God established the family as the most important part of society. Her family fit the Biblical definition of a broken home. She faced some real problems, because her husband was not the spiritual head of the home.
Let me explain by going two places. Yes, I know if you’re not a parent, this setup may not seem as important. However, you should read it. It will help you if the Lord leads you to be the shepherd – the spiritual leader – for siblings, cousins, or what have you. And, it will help you understand other important things.
