iii. Totally protected from destruction

Finally, many people have sought to destroy the Bible. In the early days of the church, some tried to take all the scrolls and destroy them. In the 1500s, William Tyndale and others smuggled Bibles because having one in one’s own language was illegal. Even today, there are countries where it is illegal to have any Christian literature.

If any other book had been attacked like the Bible, we would have no record, or almost none. Take one book that wasn’t attacked like that – a legend called Beowulf. Only one copy survives of this well-known work, a copy from several hundred years after it was written. Before there were printing presses, and everything had to be done by hand, it would have been easy to snuff the Bible out. But, God allowed it to be supernaturally protected. Despite incredible persecution, the Bible has continued to survive and thrive. Never take for granted the fact you can enjoy God’s Word.
