This is because God has given us the responsibility to pray. Remember those verses I quoted which are mentioned in our men’s prayer room. Remember that mother who prayed for her son, because he was out after his curfew. Remember that there is spiritual warfare all around. We never command angels. We certainly can’t boss the Lord around. However, we can come boldly, yet humbly, to His throne of grace. With specific prayers, yet also asking God to help us to pray the right way.
Prayer will be addressed specifically at various times throughout the rest of this book. But, here’s a little piece to whet your appetite for what God will do, as your Friend, to help you be the spiritual leader who can lead your home in Christ.
I heard this story a number of years ago, on TV. A woman was explaining to her three-year-old that her new baby had come out of Mommy’s tummy. The child asked if he had come from her tummy. The mother explained that he hadn’t come from her tummy. He was adopted. So, he’d come from someone else’s tummy.
Well, the child was very upset. He wanted to come from her tummy, too. So, this woman prayed, asking God what she could do or say to explain or make him feel better. Because, obviously, it was impossible for him to come from her tummy.
Well, suddenly, this thought came to her mind. And, she blurted out, “Oh, you didn’t come from Mommy’s tummy; you came from Mommy’s heart.” And suddenly, the child was satisfied, and quickly calmed down.
Whether it was because he understood something about how much she loved him anyway, or whether – being only three – he didn’t mind as long as he came from some part of her body, the important part is, this woman had a Friend in God. A Friend who would help her with any of the great problems of life.
God wants to be your special Friend, too. He will be. If you only trust Him.
