King David had it all. And yet, when he couldn’t sleep and went up on the palace roof, he saw something he shouldn’t have. A lady named Bathsheba was bathing naked. The right thing to do would have been to turn away and not look any more. He didn’t, though. Because he thought about her in a lustful way, he did all kinds of sins. He wrote Psalm 51, a very different kind of Psalm than some of them, when he realized that what he had done could not be hidden from God.
The lesson here is that you – being flesh – are never going to be able to totally escape sin here on Earth. However, God understands. He knew the kind of man David was inside. He still called David a man after His own heart. It’s just that when David sinned, all kinds of bad things happened as a result.
