The old saying here can apply at times – sometimes God gives us what we ask for just to teach us that we shouldn’t be asking for it.
However, sometimes it’s as simple as God wants to give you whatever it is you want. He loves to give good things to His children. He loves to shower us with His will.
Pastor Frazier once told how his oldest son prayed for tickets to the amusement park Six Flags. After a few days of prayer, some kind church members gave the family tickets! I don’t know why. Maybe God was building that boy’s faith; like when some kids pray for lost puppies to come home and they do. Maybe God had someone there for the pastor or his family to tell of God’s love. Maybe He just wanted them to have a great time of rest and relaxation. He knows we all need that sometimes.
Knowing God, it may have been all of the above. He can make everything work out for the best, by weaving a bunch of things into one.
The amazing thing is, He’ll answer prayer for smaller things than that. I know of plenty of older people who pray for car keys or something else to be found, and He will hear them. Some people pray to saints, but that is wrong. God’s Word says we are to pray to Him and Him alone. Yes, those prayers can work at times, but not because a saint did anything. It’s because God, in His infinite love, chose to help.
God will help with emotions and feelings, too. We don’t always know exactly what we need. And, the Bible doesn’t give us specifics on things like which person to marry. It just gives guidelines like making sure the person is a mature Christian. But, when we are happy, sad, really in need, or whatever else, God will help us. And, He will guide us through what the Bible calls a “still, small voice.”
