Many things need to be said. So, I wasn’t sure what to write next. I got up and did a few chores, and prayed, and a verse came to my mind right away.
As we’ll see, Christians don’t just sit at home and read their Bible all day. We have fun – but the right kind of fun. However, the Bible is important. As you’ll see, it is not just a book of “don’t”s. There are many things it tells us we can and should do that will help us and improve our lives and help others.
God speaks through it. Some of what He tells us is in the form of narratives. What’s that? It’s a true story, told by a narrator. In this case, the narrator is God.
We have ministers now. We don’t have prophets like Elisha. You can get great things from a good preacher. In fact, when writing about Onesiphorus, I first remembered hearing about him from one of my pastor’s sermons. However, nothing is better than reading God’s Word on your own. If you have the Holy Spirit in you, he can help you understand it, since He inspired people to write it.
We are told to read the Bible so we can spot truth and stay away from false teaching. And, we are supposed to hide God’s word in our heart. That way, He can help you know what to do on a daily basis. Plus, He can give anyone verses like what He gave me, Mathew 6:33, when we’re not sure where to start:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
“These things,” in this context, are things that people worry about. Food, clothing, shelter, and other things are necessary for our survival. Jesus is reminding His listeners here that God takes care of flowers, birds, and many other things in a great way. So, certainly, He will take care of their needs. That is the verse’s meaning.
However, there are a number of applications. I applied it to my question to see that I should write first about putting God first. Jesus wants His listeners to realize that He should be sought first. Any good leader should apply this verse by following God first. That’s because His Word is Truth.
