Putting God first means that you realize He is your creator. He is the one who knows how things should be done. It can seem like your main purpose if to help people, of course; like in the Mother Teresa example. This part is asking, where is your heart?
It’s actually best not to announce every time you do something good. Jesus says that we should never be like those who give only to be seen by people. He tells us to do what we do for Him in secret, so he can reward us openly for it. (Matthew 6:4) However, that does not mean that we should never tell others that we are going things for God. Nobody will know unless we tell them.
Rather, it means we should have a sense of humility. This will help you to have real joy, because your focus will be on Heaven. You will be thinking of the good things God has done for you. You will be recalling your salvation. Then, you will be able to tell others of how you are serving them and helping them because of all that God has done for you. The Shunammite woman was certainly able to do this. She never boasts of what she has done. And yet, she is certainly willing to stand up and get what she needs for herself and others; as mentioned, later she does ask the king for help, after a big drought.
